WKAR at Michigan State University recently earned three major national awards, including the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) award for Noncommercial Station of the Year received by WKAR-FM on Oct. 1 at the 26th annual NAB Marconi Radio Awards Dinner and Show in Atlanta, Ga.

“The Marconi is the pinnacle award in the radio industry, and to be recognized by our commercial counterparts is truly an honor,” said Gary Reid, WKAR Director of Broadcasting. “Receiving a major national award for what we’ve accomplished in mid-Michigan is a testament to the quality of our content and the contributions of our staff.”

WKAR-TV also received two national awards this week from the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA), including the Community Engagement/Impact Award for the WKAR original TV series, “Curious Crew,” and the Local Culture Award for the WKAR original TV special, “Sweetie-licious: A Slice of Life.” The awards were presented Oct. 5 at the annual NETA Professional Development Conference in Tampa, Fla.
